North Chadderton Science Department
 
Contract between Sixth Form Students and the Department
 
 
 
Departmental Aims and Objectives:
 
 
1.    To address the needs of individual students
 
2.    To enable each student to reach his/her potential
 
3.    To provide a variety of teaching styles and learning opportunities
 
4.    To provide opportunities for students to become independent, confident, responsible and mature learners
 
5.    To promote enjoyment and enthusiasm for Science
 
6.    To prepare students for further studies in Science
 
 
What you can expect from the Department
 
 
1.    Clear instructions and guidance on the subject content in each module and study skills required
 
2.    Constructive and positive feedback about progress.
 
3.    A willingness to be available at reasonable times in the event of students needing extra help, support or advice
 
4.    A textbook written for the specification being studied, self supported study packs, revision questions and tests made up of past examination questions at the end of each section of every module
 
5.    An encouragement for students to develop skills in ICT using facilities within the department and elsewhere in school
 
6.    Any work set will be marked and returned as quickly as possible
 
 
What the Department expects from you
 
 
Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own work and progress and to develop the study skills needed for higher education. We therefore expect:
 
1.    A positive attitude, excellent behaviour and a willingness to work hard and the motivation to succeed
 
2.    Prompt attendance at all lessons. 
 
3.    The appropriate books and files, along with any homework set, brought to lessons
 
4.    A mature explanation of the reasons for any lessons missed, together with a commitment to catch up the work
 
 
Advance notice of any planned absence, so work can be given in advance
 
 
5.    All work to be handed in on time
 
6.    To show respect for any departmental resources and equipment and to return them after use
 
7.    That you develop self study habits to follow up and consolidate the work done in class. You should be spending 5 hours per week on individual study for each subject studied
 
8.    That you do any holiday work which may be set
 
9.    That you try to attend as many of the additional trips/courses as possible and wherever possible purchase any textbooks recommended for the course of study
 
 
Failure to comply with the above expectations may result in withdrawal from lesson, letters home to parents or, as a last resort, withdrawal from the examination(s).
